Stories from the landscape.
Where photographs begin.
Beyond the photographs lies the journey that leads to them. The Quiet Earth blog is a place to share those journeys — the early mornings, the long walks across moorland and coastline, and the quiet patience of waiting for light to settle across the land.
Here I write about the places explored while creating the work you see in the galleries — from open landscapes and restless seas to winter snow, ancient trees, hidden waterfalls, and the small details that often reveal the true character of a place. These reflections from the field follow the rhythm of the seasons and the experience of walking slowly through the landscape, often accompanied by my working Cocker Spaniel, Toby, who never seems to tire of the next path, hill, or stretch of coast.
In many ways, this blog is a continuation of the photographs themselves — a quieter space to share the thoughts, stories, and moments that exist just beyond the frame.
Broken Bones and Ancient Oaks
Tucked above the Vale of Ffestiniog, in the heart of Coed Felenrhyd & Llennyrch National Nature Reserve, lies one of Wales’ most enchanting woodlands.
